Is there a chip for the 3.0 V6 (1992 Aerostar) and what kind of hp and torque improvement could I expect from it? Also will the chip straighten out the stupid electronic tranny that likes to double downshift? Going down the road at say 50 mph and I want to speed up so I keep putting my foot farther into the pedal and it just won't drop into 3rd, then finally it downshifts, but into 2nd instead, which causes it to wind out like mad and is totally unnecessary.
Yes we do have a chip for your Aerostar Van. It will gain 16 hp and 25 ft/lb torque. I don't think that it will cure the shifting problem that you now have, unless the problem is caused by low fluid pressure. It will cause you to use less accelerator to gain the same amount of speed with the increased hp and torque.
Thanks

Unfortunately the Aerostar does not have an electronically controlled transmission, so the chips cannot address this. My wife drives a 93 and it's horrible on shifting. Full synthetics and everything. It just doesn't shift right.

The extra power may do the trick and certainly won't make the tranny any worse. If it is a non-electric tranny, then I could get a shift kit. I am afraid the stock smooth shifting (read made to slip in two gears at once while shifing for smoothness) tranny will burn out under the load. I understand from another post that I will pretty much always have to run premium with the chip.
You are correct that you really should use premium with the chip. Normally you will see a gain of 1-2 mpg on the Aerostar. Figure your cents per mile now on regular fuel and cents per mile after a 1-2 mpg gain on premium fuel. The mileage gain may offset the .20/gal. hike in fuel cost.
Thanks
Danny
What about the 3.0 V6 in a 97 Taurus. I see the same problems as TPaul described in his van. Are there chips for those engines? Can you recomend any chip web links for my car.
And don't anyone give me any guff about posting a car question here. The computer in my FE truck is controlled by my big foot. :-)
