New Chip question...
OK, I am finally ready to get the minivan up to speed, so to speak. So I am looking for any input on either of the chips offered here as to the gains in power or mileage. Any comments at all, really. It seems that I keep finding myself driving across country, and the Aerostar seems to be the travel vehicle. And crossing the Rockies and Cascades REALLY begs more horses. Even ponies would probably help.
So, if you have installed a chip in a 3.0 Aerostar, and are willing to offer your impressions (good, bad, indifferent) I would like to see it.
Also any other mod's made that complimented or detracted from your chip upgrade. Plus any DO NOT or MUST DO that you found out (probably the hard way, right?)
For the record, my van is a 1988 with a "new" 1991 3.0 installed approximately 40,000 miles ago. [new meaning it came out of a 1991 Ranger in 1991 when the new Ranger met an untimely end with only 2K miles on it. Then it sat on a stand in the garage until the Aerostar coughed up it's motor at 130K.] It has a stock rear-end with 3.54 gears. The only modifications (so far) are a drop in K&N filter, removal of the air baffle in front of the air cleaner intake, and a fresh A4LD with a shift kit.
Besides a chip, I am considering a Y-pipe back performance exhaust (replacing the CAT's with a single high-flow cat, and a larger, free flowing exhaust.)
Presently the "performance" isn't really. The mileage on the open road is OK at 21-25 (but NOT in the mountains).

I don't think you'll find many. To date, I haven't sold any chips for 3.0 Aerostars. Most people driving mini-vans don't consider performance a big deal. Apparently, you aren't "most people."

In almost every case a good exhaust with a chip are a big plus! Very few things are going to detract from a chip except bad fuel/air filters, and with an older engine, not calibrating the fuel/air mixture for higher air flow (but this will happen even without a chip).
I live in the UK and would be very grapefruit of any help with updating my 92 Aerostar
which I love to bits its the best family vehicle in the world and if I had 15,000 for a new vehicle I would rather spend it on bringing an Aerostar up to date but I dont so any tips at all would be appreciated
