I tried to do the over-the-air update on my 2018 F-150 from Sync 3 Version 2.3, to the new Sync 3 Version 3. The reason I tried to do this is I attempted to update my Navigation Map file to the latest, but was told I needed the latest version of Sync 3 prior to update the map file. The over the air update would not work so I took it to the dealer. They said the would update the Sync and the maps. When I picked up the truck I verified the Sync 3 was version 3. After I got home I checked online and the latest map file is version NA 118 but mine is still NA 115. Am I correct in believing I do not have the latest Map file?

If I remember correctly Sync has to contact Ford by wi-fi to update this information on the web site. Also if I remember correctly from reading posts on this topic this may take a long time or may never happen.

I remember seeing somewhere that the Wi-Fi update process will only take place 3 times in every 30 day period. I'll check mine later and let you know what I have.

Unless something has drastically changed, meaning map updates are now free, map updates are not performed via an over the air / WiFi update.
The last I heard, they’re still $149.00 dollars via a USB stick.
Plan on an hour or more from internet to usb, depending on download speed. Then an hour from usb to truck. Mine is a 2016, so it got the biggest file(13gb) 18 and 19s are a smaller file so it's quicker. And the 18 and 19 files are only $40.00
An issue for the 19's is it updates, but does not show it. Known problem. Being worked on.

Cool and thanks for the info.
I also have a 2016.
Tomorrow I’m having my APIM replaced so hopefully they’ll also update it with the updated maps otherwise, it’s time to purchase a new and larger storage USB stick.

My wifes car had the APIM replaced a couple of years ago and went from the 1 14 to a 1 15. So hopefully you'll end up with a 1 18 version.
Yet another reason to use the map apps on your phone.
Not really. I have an updated Garmin, the latest update from Ford in my SYNC and Android Auto. Each has it's merits, and faults. Each one is missing data, each has issues with directions, and each will send you down roads you shouldn't be on. It all depends on the user's preferences with the different interfaces, the area you live in, and how far away from home you travel.
