So I just purchased a used 2013 f250 with 90K miles. I’m getting the reduced engine power message and CEL but only during acceleration when I get over about half throttle. I replaced the fuel filters even though the dealer I bought it from had just replaced them. Problem still remains. I towed my camper yesterday and it does great as long as I baby it. I’m really hoping I didn’t end up with someone else’s failing HPFP. I have read many threads about replacing the entire fuel system due to the HPFP but I haven’t seen anything related to the problem only showing up under heavy acceleration. Anything else I should check before I let the dealer check it out?
When you did the fuel filters did you see "sparkles" (aluminum shavings) in the frame mounted filter? If not then maybe it's not the HPFP but something else. Definitely need those codes read.
Fuel rail (these DTCs) is post HPFP correct? I'm thinking need to look at freeze frame data to see what the fuel pressure is vs what is being commanded.
Does your DFCM sound different (louder) from when it was working at KOEO? If "just purchased" was within a few weeks I recognize you may not have been able to learn normal yet.
Rule out the fuel tank pick up being plugged by removing the fuel line coming from the tank and blowing air through it back to the tank. (fuel cap off). You can access the line at the fuel pump on the frame. If your truck runs fine after that then drop the tank and find that piece of cardboard before it does more permanent damage. Blowing through the line will dislodge the cardboard for a short time until it finds its way back to the pickup tube. Your truck should run fine until that happens again.
Dealer agreed to come pick it up and check it out. The first time it happened I was on my way home with it after I bought it. I called the dealer immediately to let them know. We both agreed that it was possible that they didn’t get all of the air out since they had just done a full service on it but if it continued they would take a look. Hopefully it’s something minor. I will update the thread once I hear from the dealer.
Talked to the dealership today and they said the entire fuel system needs to be replaced. Fortunately they are going to make it right and take care of the entire bill. I got lucky! All American Chevrolet in Killeen, TX stands behind the vehicles they sell, new or used! Thanks everyone for for the input on my situation.
