Name these things?

I have some ideas, others I don't have. Some I did know and have since forgotten.

loose crimp cap on right side of c6

plug just behind timing cover

in the center on the right of fuel pump slot, shiny circle looks like aluminum plug, has a dimple like someone started to drill it out

Giant threaded rod sticking out of what looks to be a block provision for dipstick

what are those rings and are they supposed to stick out?

they are just a bit recessed on these

The picture below is a breather. As the oil gets hot in the trans it expands, this lets the air in and out as the oil expands and contracts, and makes an effort to keep dirt and water splash out.

In the picture below, those are your lifters. They ride on the camshaft and push up on the pushrod which is the long rod above each one. That pushrod in turn pushes on your rocker arms under the valve cover, and that opens the valves. Some are up, some are down because of the firing order of the engine.

Need to take the pictures back a little farther so we can tell where & what we are looking at in some of them.
The last 2 pictures are the lifters that ride on the cam shaft.
As the cam turns it pushes up the lifter, why it is out of the lifter bore, that then pushes the push rod that moves the rocker & valve.

First picture I am going to say is a vent for the trany. You see that type of "loose cap" on the end of hoses that go to the rear & front (if 4x4) axle housings and to transfer cases.
This hose is then routed up into the frame (rear axle), firewall (transfer case), or radiator support (front axle) so if going thru deep water / mud water will not get into them and the cap is to keep out bugs.

Other pictures it is hard to tell what they are.

I might be able to get them to turn out now that the sun is up. This phone takes really low quality photos though and I can't get enough light in the shop.

All the engine pictures are taken of the left side. Will see if I can get better pictures.

@NumberDummy It didn't occur to me until now to think to ask you about 300 6 blocks. There are 3 different styles, if I remember correctly. Could you shed some light on this?

I was looking around at garys place, and found this image.

This looks like the aluminum plug in my photo that someone tried to drill, any idea what this is? Or was?

There are 2 locations for dip sticks on the later 300 blocks. You have to remember the 300 used in a lot of applications, Automotive, Off-highway (construction equipment, Aircraft tugs, Forklifts man lifts etc), Agricultural, Stationary, Marine, Industrial and Power Generation. And there are literally a dozen or more Oil pans for the 300. Ford used to cast a few different 300 blocks depending on the application. Towards the end of production, Ford was pretty much just casting one block for Automotive and the Power Product applications (non-automotive) and machining just as needed. So some of these blocks may have things like multiple locations for dip sticks. I do know for sure though the later replacement and maybe some of the later blocks were all machined the same regardless of application.

That's what I was thinking, wanted a second opinion. The block was cast at the end of '95. Not sure how they got it in there unless it was a big bolt and they cut it down after. Doesn't appear to be near enough room between it and the block to get some jam nuts on there.
