Well that's interesting. I cracked open the books, and the 51A does show up in all of the earlier books, but its indented under the 8A (because it has a 15000 series lighting number). I guess the 2 were offered together for a while. Funny they didn't assign it an 18000 series accessory number.
In the 1948-52 Chassis Parts Catalogue, they list FAA-18375-B as 1952 only, 8A-18375 for 1948-51, and indented they show 51A-15700 for 1948-52! I would be willing to bet they made a ton of the 51A's, and wanted to sell them off. No doubt it's much more common to find an NOS 51A than any of the others. 8A's are around, but I don't think I have ever had an FAA.
Chuck
Thanks Chuck, you had me worried about the 51a! I have an 8a also but it looks like the 51a has a mechanical advantage and can be easily unhooked for shows, etc.
51A-15700 .. Engine Compartment Lamp is listed in the "Green Bible" for 1942/47 trucks except COE & 1942/48 Ford Passenger Cars, but it should be the same for Mercury and Lincoln/Continental.
