Howdy! My 2019 f250 is pulling a 30ft TT. Been looking around for a reliable system for backing into tight spaces! 😆. If anyone has a recommendation please pass it on.
Keep it forward- never straight! Cheers
I have a Lariat not delivered with a back up package- only the tailgate and “above cab “ camera. Thanks
i already read primary thread on this topic but too many 5th wheeler’s out there (wish I had one) so I am starting a Travel Trailer version. 50ft from cab to business end of TT.
I have the Ford camera system. It's OK, not great. That may be my own fault. I mounted the camera above the cargo ramp, so it's quite high off the ground. The resolution is poor enough that I miss certain details like 8x8 posts embedded in the ground sticking up 18". It's too high up to easily clean the lens.
I ran the cable up the front of the trailer, along the roof and then 12" down the back of the trailer. I still had some cable to go.
I chose wired. I read so many complaints about how great wireless was, while parked!. Once you went 60mph, many reported dropouts and other frustrations. Also, the wireless need to find power and the nearest power wire is an always hot one. IMHO, not what I want.
I elected to spend the money and do it right with THIS system. Yes there are less expensive ways to go, there must be, but I did not research as I have had no problems with this setup on prior rigs.
On back of my trailer, I ran wire down thru a closet to get to underbelly. From there I ran wire up to A-Frame hitch. The kit has the coil cord that jumps the hitch over to bumper. I then ran the wire from bumper to behind glove box. There I connected to fuse for 12v. I use a velcro setup to "mount" display on the dash and connect to the mating connector that lives in the glove box when now towing. The end result is rock solid picture.

It depends on what you want to spend. I've had this $199.00 wireless camera for 2 yrs no issues and it's a very clear picture day and night. I have a 34" trailer it's mounted on the top back. It's nice to see the traffic behind for lane changes and backing into campsites. It does occasionally skip with momentary freezes only while driving but for me it's a non issue since I got it for backing into sites and when doing that it's never skipped. Read the reviews.

Another opinion...... I've been backing trailers for 30+ years, both recreational and commercial. I added a wireless backup camera to my 29' TT, and found it to be a distraction when backing. When I arrive at a campsite, I get out and visually position the trailer, then back it in using my mirrors. If my wife isn't "spotting" for clearances, I may do a couple of visuals. I find the adjustable mirrors the most effective tool in backing, since they adjust in and out and up and down for watching the wheel track. If rear clearance is an issue, I just lay a wheel chock on the ground and use it as a parking marker.
I wanted mine fully integrated. I didn't want extra components and wires and stuff all over the cab. So I went with the Ford customer placed camera. As noted above, it's not great, but it works for me. Mine is mounted just above my spare tire, so ti's easy to get to to clean. But I need to actually raise it a few inches. It's a little too low. But it otherwise works fine. I will also agree with the mirrors comment above. I still rely heavily on my mirrors. And I still rely heavily on getting out and looking with my eyes. It is all of this. The backup camera is just another piece to assist. I could do with out it, as I have for many years, but it does give you one more check as you're backing in.
I have the Furrion wireless observation camera on my 5th wheel. Haven’t had any issues with signal and being able to use it as a review mirror to see cars following or coming up from behind for a pass is awesome.
