like I said it's all about how you do the repair... I've got some lines that have been running well over 10 years and are silver soldered and I don't tolerate Junk either.
you gotta sweat the old nipples off and reinstall them on clean Line.
EDIT: I'm not talking about fixing cracks, I mean redoing the line.
All 8 injectors cleaned and rebuilt with a spec sheet. Installed tonight. Got the driver side exhaust manifold gasket changed out with a fel-pro upgraded one. This weekend going to tackle the passenger side and full timing job... In addition i have to service my service truck. I guess there is no rest for the wicked.
Ahhhhhhhhh... Jesles crisps... Ive tried everything to get the timing to line up... Manually cranking over. Bumping the starter... No matter what she just wont line up. A little help guys
pull the glow plugs to release compression in the engine. then turn the crank a bit with a breaker bar and socket on the nut.
I pulled the glow plugs out and have been using my 3ft breaker. Might have to break out my cheater pipe. My only fear is shearing the bolt or pulling the threads out of the snout
Expert opinions please... Yay or nay before I commit to sealing her back up. I just couldnt get the very last few degrees without creating a major issue

this is weird..... I've not had either a 6.9 or 7.3 with GP removed that took more than 90 Ft Lbs of torque to turn the engine over unless the engine had internal issues ... just saying.... I know you don't just spin em with a 3/8" ratchet....... must be one hell of a soot buildup or I hate to say possible rust <<== just thinking out loud, not saying you have this issue.
during a rebuild I generally have to lock the flywheel to torque the Balancer Bolt

I shooting at soot build up. No7 had double crush washers and no8 had no washers, plus air intrusion, exhaust manifold leak and timing way off. Getting her close to dialed in. Got everything, well minus belts and pulleys put back on and fired her off to check. Will get a picture tomorrow and fine tune the timing. Been some long hours spent wrenching.
those timing marks look good to me.
slap her back together and go fir it!!!
Well, gave her some good long hard cranks this morning she chooched back to life. The result, a very acceptable amount of greyish smoke that cleared up after running a couple of minutes. Didnt want to run it too much because I dont have coolant in. But the ol girl sounds and runs 10 times better. Doesn't sound like a midget going to town with a sledgehammer. Has that semi smooth pre-powerchoke clack. Now if the daggone rain held off and I didnt have household chores to deal with, I'd have her put completely back together

once you get it all back together and on the road, you can fine tune the timing. i run around 10 degrees.
Well after dealing with little odds and ends fired her up and went to fill up... Idles fine, a little grey smoke, but under throttle she chooches. Far from what she was before... But enough to be embarrassing and know something isn't right...WTH
