sorry to awaken this thread. ive recently done some work on trade for an 01 Excursion LTD 2WD 5.4 with a tow package. mileage is at about 250k, uses .5qt of oil inside 5k miles. I got it thinking that i could at least use the shell (hell these things are only worth 2.2k now) and drop something else in. some of you are pointing out dropping in a Lightning 5.4. Im guessing that comes with needing new electronics (harness ECM etc) but what about the driveline? my goals are to get this dude lifted about 4 inches and do a front end conversion to the 2016 superduty. in order to get this thing to move as good as its going to look i know i want it to be somewhat beefy. I want to keep as much as i can stock (not interested in all of the swap headache if i dont need to endure it) engine looks like it has been taken care of pretty well although it feels like it may have a misfire at times. what are a good set of cams that i could swap into this dude? headers etc? i have the ability and tools to do most of what i want to do, but i dont have the patience to rebuild this old engine and i really dont think it would be beneficial. any and all help would be appreciated
You are in Tennessee, correct? Any emission inspections to worry about?
It looks like you are trending towards some add-ons and changes, possibly along with a rebuild of your existing engine? Maybe different cams, shorty headers?
only light that is showing is the ABS light, so we're good on that front. i would like to steer clear of a rebuild if i can. ideally i would like to get an engine/trans out of something else with lower miles and do some cam work to that/headers as well. naturally aspirate the engine as much as i can before forced induction, and its looking like a supercharger and a 4.3 differential gear swap will give me the most out of the 5.4, correct me if im wrong. i would like your opinion
Thread moved. My opinion is you will get more help here on all things Excursion. There is a modular engine forum as well, but this is a much more active forum, and things like the gear change and other issues are routinely handled here, as well as the engine.
HA! yeah the Coyote would be fun but id end up rebuilding it frequently. Cummins is out of the equation because of the sheer amount of labor involved and i might as well have bought one with a cummins. Lightning setup is what got me interested in forced induction versus the cummins swap to begin with. I think i really just need to find a 5.4 under 100k miles and rebuild tranny
