Hi - I found some info through search of replacing lower rad hose on 6.4 but this seemed to be for hose to radiator section. I am looking at the other section going to engine . It looks a little tough to get at - any suggestions for someone working on their back !
Drain the rad, take the center union out of the lower, There will be alot of coolant in the hose still so be prepared with a large pan/bucket. Pull the clip off the block from the underneath using a pick. Same thing on the rad side. Make sure you have the updated hoses, double ring style. It looks intimidating but take the time to drain the hose or you will get a shower.
BTW you might be wise to pull the fender liner on the pass side at the front to get in there. It's flexible so just the fron fasteners need to be removed. And, if I recall correctly I belief I popped the clip on the block side from the top.
If your upper isn't updated to double oring style, do that too.
Thanks Diesel Danny .The lower rad hose engine side connection is on driver side . Did you mean to remove passenger side fender liner or drivers ? I recently had passenger side out to replace alternator ; i dont think it will help.
Getting to the pass side rad hose to the fitting is the pass side fender liner. It gives you an angle to pop the clip and reseat the new. Impossible to do otherwise, You'll be hawking it from the ground looking up toward the left of your headlight looking up and forward. Follow the hose up and you'll see what I'm talking about. BTW what hoses are you going with. If they are aftermarket with worm or T lock clamps I can shed more light on the procedure. If they are fixed OEM ends............you've got a wrestling match to seat them. Properly. Silicone spray on the oring lands is your friend.
Question: are you just replacing the block side hose and not the entire unit to the radiator? The hose runs from the block, to a mid union centered on the truck and continues to the pass side of the rad. Big difference in attack angles.
Yes I will probably replace both lower rad hoses block side & rad side . But I think its only the block side that is leaking (drip-drip-drip) . I will probably go with aftermarket but oring type with clip & am aware of white modified vs black non modified . The rad itself was replaced under warranty in 2010 (its a 2008) I bought used from a dealer & was aware of the rad recall but not the hoses . Anyway it s just about 100 k miles but well over 5 years . Will scope out again but probably wont be able to do it for a little while - possibly early October
