I have a 2017 F350 Platinum that has the factory backup camera. Unfortunately, when I use my slide in camper I remove the tailgate and end up losing the camera. Looking for options on cameras for on the camper/truck so I can hook up my trailer still by myself. Ideally it would be something I can just plug into the factory harness. Figured I would ask here instead of reinventing the wheel.
What I used when I used to have a 5th wheel camper. Magnetic mount camera. Plunked it on the 5th wheel until the pin was in. Then removed it and finished the hookup.
Haven't really used it since I sold the 5th wheel and got a truck with tailgate camera, but I keep it tucked in a door pocket just in case.
Poncho - any problems? The reviews are all over the place, but some sound like user error.
thanks.
Mine worked as it should have. It takes a minute for the camera and the screen to sync up but that was about the only small drawback that I recall. It hasn't been used in nearly 2 years.
I honestly don't know what the range is because mine only had to transmit from the 5th wheel plate into the cab, not a very long distance. Although I did also used to set it on the rear bumper to hook up my bumper pull trailers before I got the 2017 with camera.
So now I have 2 cameras in my cart on Ebay. One is a fixed mount and the other is a license plate mount. The fixed would be mounted on the camper and then wired to the truck with a supplied connector. The other is the plate mount that wires up the same way.. Now to decide which one I like more! lol
I like the idea of the wireless magnet mount because I can use it easily on 6 trailers. It would be great to see behind the trailer. Although for 40 some years I have been looking ahead of time before putting a trailer rear end somewhere.

That's what I liked about the camera I linked earlier. At the time I had a 5th wheel camper and 3 bumper pull trailers. Now the camper's gone and a 4th trailer is in use, but the tailgate camera kind of negated me needing the magnetic mount camera.
My new truck has the tailgate camera and it is just wonderful for backing up to a bumper pull trailer. Right on everytime. It could not be better. I was thinking about the wireless camera for the rear of the trailer looking back since 90% I am alone. Are you interested in selling yours?

Let me check it out to make sure it still works properly. Like I said, it's been tucked in a rear door pocket of the truck for 2 years with no use. Need to make sure I haven't had a leaking battery or some other incident due to neglect.
The magnetic one would be a great option if I didn't already have it wired int he truck. The idea of unplugging and removing the tailgate and then just plugging in another camera sounds like an easier idea.
Haven't forgotten you *****. Scrambling to get jobs done before I shut my seasonal business down besides helping my off season part time employer out while another driver is on vacation. Crazy week!
Ended up ordering the one that mounts to the licence plate. I figured this way I don't need to mount it on the camper and that it can be used any other time when I have the tailgate off.
