I'm looking for info on replacing the tailgate camera while the tailgate is removed. I am hauling an Arctic Fox 811 in the bed of my 2017 F350 Lariat SB with 360 camera system. The tailgate is removed before loading the camper. On my 2011 F350 I was able to buy a OEM tailgate harness and a cheap backup camera that I mounted on my camper's rear bumper/step. I simply unplugged the tailgate and removed (I had to buy a crane to remove the tailgate by myself) and then plugged in the tailgate/camera harness on the camper shell. This was easy and cheap to do and now I'm looking for a similar solution for my 2017. I've done my searches here on ford-trucks.com and have not been able to find exactly what I need, has anybody done this?

btw, I don't want to tap into the AUX camera input, I will add a camera high on the back of the camper and tap into the AUX input. Planning to use this from camera-source.com
Same site, just a different part. That should integrate seamlessly with the 360 and come on automatically in reverse. Just protect the cable and remember to disconnect before removing camper.
On my Chevy, I bought another tailgate camera from GM and installed it on the underside of my slide in camper, and I simply plug the new camera in place of the tailgate camera. I hope to do the same with a Ford SD. Hope it would work.

Yes. After rinsing my mouth out with whiskey from reading of your Chevy ownership, that is the way to go. Either get the camera I linked above if you have the 360 system, or the camera OP posted if you have the standard backup camera, and it should integrate seamlessly.

My old camera from my 2013 did not connect to my 2018 truck. Bob will sell you a camera that you can mount and connect to your ford display. I chose a surface mount for my 4 wheel camper. I mounted it next to the camper door, at about the same height as the tailgate. It is off to the side by 10 inches but it works well. You need a camera with the 2 row square connector. When you remove the tail gate there are two connectors to unplug. Remember to put the dust cap on the tail gate locking connector. This camera did not have the white lines that curve when you turn the wheel. It will help if you add a note for Bob about the truck, year and model. There have been many changes to connectors in recent years. Enjoy your camper.

Nice install. Note this is only if you do NOT have the 360 camera system. If you have the 360, it is a different camera (linked above).
Outstanding thread. Anyone figure out how to fool the system to activate the backup camera while the truck is in forward motion, using one of the upfitter switches? I haul stuff all the time on receiver mounted hitch things behind my Hallmark truck camper, and really cannot see them while traveling....
I like the camera options here but does someone have a cable that will give me the option of using a generic camera (with RCA video and a separate power ) to adapt that to the ford connector?
I also was looking to have a backup camera when I remove my tailgate. I looked at some of the options and found them expensive . Since I already had a backup camera I found a guy who said for $40 he would make me a simple cord with a ford plug on one end and a standard video rca plug on the other end along with two wires for 12VDC + and ground. Once I get it, I will add a photo and report if it works, . If others want this low cost fix for people who can do their own wiring on the camera end let me know and I will ask the guy for ok to post his contact information.
