For ten years now I've been running a DS2 dizzy with an msd 6a, no DS2 box. The first msd box lasted 8 years. (Their customer sevice line is HORRIBLE. "We'll fix it for $40 plus postage." Sent it and two weeks later it came back with note: 'Can't fix this.' ) The second lasted less than two years. Unless I carry a spare msd, when it goes out it is a major problem that requires time and work and money. Now I'm trying to decide whether to simply go with a DUI dizzy since I'm looking at having to pull my distributor and have the advance redone.
I was thinking of using a Summit box, but see they are made by msd, and I no longer trust them. I believe they are one of hundreds of US co's who buy Chinese goods and don't ck them for quality ... while still charging top dollar.
Has anyone gone from an msd to DUI? I'd love to hear your take. Thx.
The DUI distributor runs a GM HEI ignition module in the distributor and they are about as reliable as your msd boxes have been. Some people will get 40 years out of one and others get 6 months.
Its quite easy to wire your truck up so you are 1 or 2 plugs away from switching the MSD box wiring back to the duraspark wiring. If it were me I’d set it up to run the MSD box (or some other capacitive discharge box) but keep the duraspark module there for an easy backup.
