How to replace ignition switch

Found this...

Ignition - Gary's Garagemahal (the Bullnose bible)

and I know where the ignition switch is located on top of the column behind the dash. But I’m stuck at the part where it says remove the steering column shroud and lower the steering column.

How do you lower over the steering column to get to this bugger?

Piece of cake, much easier than you'd think. Underneath the steering column, remove the plastic trim piece from the bottom edge of the dashboard. Four screws, IIRC.

With this trim piece out of the way, you will see two large bolts that secure a metal bracket holding the steering column to the dash structure. Remove these two bolts (can't remember if the bracket itself comes loose or stays with the steering column) and you can lower the steering column. It just pivots at the firewall, which really surprised me.

There's also a cosmetic shroud piece that wraps around the steering column. It hides the wires and the pushrod that connects the key cylinder to the switch. I think there are one or two screws underneath that secure this shroud. Once loose, open up the shroud along the seam and lift it up and over the actual steering column hidden inside. Trying to remember the sequence, but maybe you have to remove this shroud before lowering the column.

Yes remove the plastic trim/shroud first.
The bracket is 2 piece one stays on the column the other to the dash. I just did this but now I can't think if I'm right saying this.
But it is really easy. once you remove those 2 bolts the column drops. Be careful if it's automatic and you don't break that shift indicator tube.
Mine was so brittle is broke just touching it basically. So now I have no shift indicator. Not a big deal..
