Tailgate will not open, 2012 escape
Hey all,
My tail gate will not open. The glass will open though. Do I need an actuator or is there a common fix for this? I read that the glass opener tailgate use the same circuit. FWIW

I crawled into the rear compartment of mine and pulled the inner plastic liner off the top of the rear door. From there I could see and reach into it to manually pop the latch and open the lift gate.
After completely removing the plastic cover, I tied a shoelace to the mechanism and ran the opposite end up and out near the glass latch. Now I can pop the glass and then pull the string until I get the new mechanism and install it.
If you go this route, make sure to close the glass before allowing the gate to go up. The hinges for the glass aren't made for that stress and they already have issues of their own.
