Hey guys this will be my first time posting to the forum. I’m not the greatest mechanic but I know enough general stuff to handle most tasks. I’d like to hear what things other 6.7 owners have done to their trucks when they got them performance-wise without getting into the engine. It’s a 2012 I was probably gonna start with the EZ Lynk tuner and 5” turbo back exhaust. But I’d like to know what else do y’all think is a must have or would give me some extra power. Also anything like control arms, lifts, etc. I’m looking forward to responses TIA
My opinion is too many tiners tuners are the root cuase of engine failure...6.7 is not structurally built to have its timing advanced and the aluminum cast pistons and heads have a low heat ceiling.
Agreed. Truck does have enough power stock. If you do tune and delete which is what your doing if you are putting a 5 inch turbo back exhaust I think the best thing/smart thing is keeping it in a stock or tow tune. Once you add the race/performance tunes your right foot takes over your brain. High egts etc. I tuned and deleted my truck but ive since gone back to the tow tune. Too easy to abuse the truck with performance tunes.

How much do you think it would cost to take it to a shop and have it deleted

Varies greatly depending on type of delete and parts. Do some research on deleting a 6.7... You can leave egr on engine and use block off plates at manifold,or you can remove egr with bypass kit(more labor). Need to remove dpf pipe either way. Need to buy a tuner. Need to buy delete tunes. You cant just use the canned tunes a tuner comes with, they have to be written for a deleted truck. Just tuner and turbo downpipe back can add up quickly. Labor if you leave egr on truck and just block off is just a few hours. Depending on what parts you get it can be 1k-3k. I also replaced plastic intercooler pipe when I deleted mine. Skys the limit! Lol. Its also very doable to do yourself, just so long as the manifold bolts dont snap on removal.(doesnt matter how many miles on truck, they snap at 25k or 200k). Thats biggest reason I had a shop do mine and my back doesnt like bending over an engine anymore for hours. Research deleting egr/dpf on this site. You will have plenty of info to last you days reading.

I guess there’s a lot I don’t know lol. You just raised even more questions. See this is my first newer truck I’ve ever owned and the first diesel I’ve owned. I didn’t know you had to get deleted tunes specifically. What if I left the egr on? What’s the benefits of deleting it?

I bought a 2014 F250 last year with 125K on the odometer.
I went to a reputable diesel performance shop and they used the 40490 SCT BDX tuner.
The shop installed:
1) CP4 fuel prevention kit
2) H&S Intercooler pipe
3) SCT tuner
4) Flo Pro Muffler (4")
Total cost: $2,500.00
Just deleting DPF piping underneath truck, adding muffler, exhaust pipe and tuner would probably run you about $1600. EGR just needs to be unplugged but I added $100 No Limit Fabrication EGR block off plates (4 total).
I would encourage you to get the longest muffler installed if you don't like drone. The Flo Pro Muffler was a joke and I ended up having a muffler shop installing an additional 32" muffler.

I was gonna go with the EZ Lynk tuner. Like I said I’m new to diesels. What’s a fuel prevention kit and why replace the inter cooler pipe?
The idea behind replacing the cool air return pipe on the intercooler is because the OEM one likes to break because of the heat and cool cycles it goes through. The plastic must get brittle and it cracks.
Yup thats why I replaced mine with h&s. I need to do the hpfp disaster kit myself soon. I used sct x4 tuner. I really didnt care which tuner I used it was who wrote the tunes is what I cared about. I used tyrant after a lot of reading. There is a lot of info to digest. So just read up. Took me about 2 months of reading. I wanted to know what I was doing/buying etc. I was also on fence on doing it myself. But there is a local diesel performance shop 1/2 hr from me. Used them. Awesome people.

Leaving egr on engine makes it much easier to return truck to stock. You then you block off plates to stop the soot/air going through the egr. Coolant still flows through. I left mine on. But theres no guarantee the egr valve wont freeze up sitting on engine and it may or may not work if you return to stock. It could freeze up in your basement too off the truck. I just chose that route and went with it. If emmisions laws changed in my state I figured this was easiest way to go back to stock. Removing egr and putting it back on is kind of labor intensive especially if your a novice.
I deleted the DPF system and it instantly gave me an extra 120hp and uses 3 litres less per 100km and has not missed a beat in the last 150000km.
Which would make your truck more environmentally friendly by using less fuel. I wish Trump would clamp down on the EPA to remove these restrictions placed on tractors and personal vehicles.
