Hey guys, I'm fairly new to this forum and I'm just now a senior in college and graduating soon, so hopefully I'll be getting more income. I've had my 1995 f-350 diesel for about a year now, and I'm looking and asking around about chips/tuners. I've heard about a few of them, (DP, TW, PHP) and was wondering about ya'lls input. I already got the gauges, intake, and exhaust. Also, I have the 5 speed and was wondering if that affects any of the tunes due to them changing shift points and stuff of an automatic. thnx!
Not to be that guy that says this, but this topic has been beat to death. Any of the big time players are great. They all offer different options and tunes. Everyone has a different opinion on this. Pricing is all very similar. Obviously the guys that offer a selectable option so you can switch on the fly are great and convenient.
I run tw and I like them but nice also run others and like them. Read up on the manufacturers sites and see what appeals to you.
ok. cool. yeah i kno its a "too often mention" topic. sorry. haha! does having a manual affect the amount of power the tune is going to give me though?
My advice is call all the tuners tell them what you use your truck ford and what mods and let them do the sell pitch. If you are just looking for better performance then just pick the cheapest one which is PHP and you'll be happy.
Thing is if 100 people post you'll get 100 different answers. Everyone has their personal favorite tuner
I was going to mention that as well. If you are running the stock injectors don't bother with a race tune as you're limited by fuel at that point. Manual Wong effect your output. I've never run php but the price is great and I've never heard anything bad about them. Or just pick up a used sct 1705 as they are super cheap and decent. And save money for injectors and an hpop and get another set of tunes with that as you'll have to have them burned for the new equipment anyways. That's what I would do. Any tunes are a vast improvement in throttle and boost response over a stock 7.3 as they are dogs stock. Full turbo back exhaust, lose the kitty, and a 6637 kit from clay before the tuner in my opinion but that's just me. You'll notice a difference with those mods and they make the tuner that much better and are better for the truck in general.
ok. thnx guys. yeah i have heard that with stock injectors i cant get more than 60-80 hp gain. When and if I get some extra cash I'll be sure and get some injectors and all that jazz. Just out of curiosity, will my stock injectors with a chip make some good smoke?
haha! Yep, I guess.... I'm still a young guy... and I like to have some fun every now and then, but I'm also paying for everything myself so I am trying to play it smart. I only plan on getting the best mileage possible and being able to tow well for now.

It will produce some smoke if you short shift it and floor it, but it will clear up quickly.
It's not the politically correct thing to do, and truthfully we shouldn't do it...... But dang it sure looks cool
So what are those guys doing that have the smoke shows? Not that I'll have the money for all that.... but guys can sure make some smoke!
Bigger injectors, more oil to control them and a tune to make it all happen...... But it ain't cool. If too many people go around doing the so called smoke show our government may end up stopping us from modding our trucks.
Most on here do it for the extra power. Diesels can and do make ton's of power with out a hint of smoke, but our trucks make it hard to do.
Cummins make more smoke than any of them. Some tuners make a smoke tune but you need big injectors to do it. Smoke is cool I guess but not for me, I prefer mpg and power. I like the semi truck whistle short shift much more than smoke. and gods fuel is expensive and if you've ever been dusted by a smoke show as I have it is not pleasant.
