Yesterday morning I got in truck (2017 SD 6.2 Gas 35,028 miles) started up and within 10 seconds the engine died like it was starved for fuel. Tried to start and nothing, My cluster showed battery flashing but I knew battery was good and lights were bright and motor cranked over. I called AAA and had it towed to my Ford Dealer.
When they called I was told I had to much oil in crankcase and it fouled the top spark plugs. I ask how could it be over full when it had the correct amount of oil. He said there was a TSB 18-2188 that applies to these symptoms. They changed oil to TSB specs. cleaned plugs. and re-flashed
I ask how could it be over full and he couldn't tell me why it would do that at 35000 miles and not before.
So be aware if it happens to you
I found that too but unfortunately it doesn’t have any info in it. Seems like important info to have if the oil level is supposed to be something other than what’s marked on the dipstick. I think I’ll start another thread and see if anyone can lay their hands on a copy so we can read the actual text.
I was told a smidge overfull caused my random long crank...we all know it's the fuel pump. They changed my oil under warranty... Still random long cranks....

Oh the volumes we could fill; when the tech replaced the collapsed fuel tank & vent on my 2018 STX, he found the probable cause in the truck's historical trouble codes....
Anyway, I have the impression that historical trouble codes are "off limits" to the techs; in their diagnosis procedures.
I put in a call but had to leave a msg., Svc desk swamped.
TSB 18-2188 below. My 2017 6.2 never exhibited crank/no start (nor long crank) problems, but did pop the Check Engine Light with p0300, p0303, and p0316 codes earlier this week after a cold morning start. No other symptoms noted. Dealer reflashed my PCM today per the TSB. The TSB does seem to imply an oil overfill can contribute to the problem, but not the case for my truck. I'll let everyone know if the problem returns...
