I'll post pics of the truck soon, I just picked up my first 4 wheeled project and I am trying to discern 100% what I actually have... Here's what I know so far:
'48 frame and front end. The cab looks to be 48 with a 48 dash, but the VIN plate is 52 and that is how it is titled. I have been told the rear fenders aren't 48's, but the bed may not be either.
It came with a running 351 Cleveland 4v and a c6 trans... the mount job on these is utterly horrible. waiting on the cross member mounts to get here now.
Right now I'm looking at wiring harness'. I know I want to update the gauge cluster, keep the 351, put in a tach, and I will probably put in a modern stereo. For now I plan on just keeping the single axle front, do a disc brake in the future, but no plans on a power steering or hvac, but might in the future.
I've found a few 12 circuit harnesses.. who's used what and did you dig it? I'm leaning towards the painfree system, I have heard they have excellent customer service. Thanks in advance from a rookie!!!
This question has been asked (to) many times, To get a confusing consensus of opinions do a search on here for wiring kits. As with most things you get what you pay for, Ron Francis at the high end with excellent product and service and the low priced specials at the other end, maybe split the difference and go with something in the middle? I like to wire from scratch but kits that have the named wires and terminals etc makes it easier.
Whatever you do, DO NOT try and correct the possible mis-registration, bureaucrats everywhere hate helping with problems and will cause nothing but trouble, keep it to yourself.

Sorry, I’m new to the forum and was having issues trying to search the threads.
i have a lot of electrical experience through work and the Marine Corps, so I thought of doing one from scratch myself but can’t decide which would be a bigger financial investment hahaha
hey smitty19. I went with painless and I have wired the engine and cab so far. Nobody's dumber than me with elec., But I wanted to do it myself. The instructions are top notch, and i've only had to call their tech. One time. (So far) c6, 351w, no air cond. Good luck with your project! Larry

A friend just did his 51 and he really liked the Rebel Wiring Company, they were very helpful with the few questions he had and the wiring harness was very nice at a good price. I really like my Ron Frances Harness.

I just ordered a summit kit. Guy on the phone says Painfree actually makes their kit!
