I’m interested in the door padding and wheelskinz steering wheel cover feedback. I’ve considered adding both to my 2019 STX. Maybe the OP’s wife can start selling the door padding lol

I have a platinum and xl. I prefer the platinum steering wheel. Will upgrade my xl to the base lariat one.

There was a thread about the arm rests. You can call tasca ford and ask. It was really inexpensive, the black platinum ones are what you want. You need to glue a part or 2 is the only thing and grind something. I dont know about the back doors.

If you so tint do the ceramic tint.

Also, there are some sound upgrades that plug and play. I would do that for sure, my xl sucks hard.

If it was me I would definitely get the long box, so much more useful than the shorter box. Then go with the xlt and add the few things you want as options.
Don't forget to get the wheel well liners to.

  • I definitely recommend the WheelSkins. I agree with the OP. I like the size of the XL/STX/XLT wheel and don't care for the Lariat and above leather wheel. The leather feels 'cheap' The WheelSkins leather on the XL/STX/XLT feels awesome. It will take about an hour to install but worth it.
  • To get the padded armrests, you have to buy the whole interior door panel. When you do so, you also get chrome trim and chrome door release handles. I did the upgrade to my truck. Cost around $450 total for both at the time.
  • I also installed a console. I built it by parts so I could get different trim level pieces. Long story there. Anyhow, at the time, ran me about $850. And as you stated, you cannot buy the assembly from Ford.
  • I installed the Ford tailgate shock. Typically, I go with OEM parts if reasonable.
If you want pictures of anything, let me know.

I already bought the truck 3 months ago - Crew Cab STX long box. So this post is a follow up on features I miss by not getting XLT or Lariat. We considered XLT really hard but it would cost about $6K more for elbow padding and center console. We passed on that. Passed on Lariat as wife hates leather seats and found cloth seats in XL/XLT more comfortable.

As far as wheel well liners go - I've been thinking about them, but do they really add function, not just appearance? I just washed the truck yesterday after the storm from last week, and couldn't see how they would prevent all that road garbage sticking to the frame/suspension. Do they really help in that regard?

Thanks for confirmation on the door panel. If you don't mind, can you post the picture of your steering wheel, as well as the parts list you used to build the console? I may end up building it from parts at some point, as wife really liked those sliding cupholders, and got the seats she really wanted, so she will be flexible on console price...

This is what I found on Amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004W0QISM/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_3?smid=A8PA7HGVP57CW&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004W0QISM/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_3?smid=A8PA7HGVP57CW&psc=1
. Wife said she can make nicer looking one that fits just right. Problem is she is always busy doing other projects so if she cannot get to it in a timely matter, this is the one I will buy.

I have never used a Bedliner or sprayliner, Dealer’s don’t take off for scratched up bed as long as it’s not severely dented etc, most dealerships will get it sprayed or add Bedliner after trade themselves nowadays.

everything else i say go for it, I own a stx so not sure about the door padding.
This really caught my attention - I always thought you have to get some sort of bed protection. We bought the truck to pull the fifth wheel and go full time next spring/summer. Given that, do you (or anyone else) think bedliner is a waste of money? We will keep the hitch in the bed all the time, and will probably have toolbox and generator there as well. That's about it. I was thinking something like this might suffice:

What do you guys think?

The wheel well liners should be standard on every truck. Yes, they prevent the majority of crud from getting up inside where you don’t want it to be. Most of the mud usually falls of before you need to clean it. On a dark color truck like yours, you don’t notice the color around the wheel.

I used some of the Ford points to buy the liners from Ford. Installed on my silver truck they covered the visible silver around the tire. They look great. Easy to hose out crud.

Bed liners are to protect the bed from getting beat up from rough use or to make a beat up bed look better. For you it seems like either prevention for an issue that won’t exist or a remedy for an issue that does not exist. A rubber bed mat that is custom fit for the bed will cost approximately $80 and prevents gear from sliding around. Not sure how it works with the large hitch. Ask others with experience.

Best wishes.

Ive had the rear liners on my higher end trucks to hide the frame and misc.

On my base trucks I dont get the rear liners. I want to blast through mud and not worry about cleaning it out. The liner can obstruct that.

thanks, h20camper, for both the picture and the parts list! Really appreciate it.

Any chance you know parts for heated seat? Seems like you know 99% of truck parts...

With time I could probably figure it out but lets start with it would be very costly. You'd need the upper and lower seat pads, the dash HVAC (FCIM), probably different wiring harnesses, etc, I think there might be some after-market solutions. Others might know. Buying 'used' XLT heated seats might be an alternative.

Look over these two threads of users trying to do the same.

Stx

I have an stx with fx4 off-road package. I love it. I to am worried about resale in the future. Most can’t tell it’s such a base package though. Most friends think I have an xlt until I tell them.
