Trying to determine whether an axle on a parts truck is Limited Slip and don't have the tag, BUT do have some facts to go on.
Truck is/was 4wd. Axle on vin tag is 17 or I7, and transmission is U.
Driver rear is 'catching' like some drum problem so won't turn for LS identification. Any of that tell me if it's LS ??
The factory limited slip wasn't that aggressive when new, and is likely to be worn out now, so if you find an appropriate axle consider replacing the clutch plates. I used the Ford Performance kit with carbon fiber clutch plates and have been very happy with it, on and off road.
Also, if you can't find a LS axle nearby you could just swap the LS carriers and so forth into the axle you are using now. Considering the amount of work you are already considering it may be more efficient time wise.
