Axle Tag - Posi?
When I bought the truck I was told that the rear axle is not original. Can I tell from the axle tag if it is a limited slip? It is a 10.25" full float.
Axle tag reads:
S123G

posi is a chevy thing, if it has a limited slip it will read something like this on the tag... 4L10 or 3L55. but since it is not original i would be skeptical in thinking that tag is correct for that axle. its just not a sure enough way to know. open up your rear axle (i'm sure the oil has never been changed!) and look behind the spiders on the sides, if you see a clutch pack or a bunch of thin metal discs then you have limited slip, if not its open!
