Hello everybody, looks like my primary water pump is starting to leak from the front seal. I’m thinking I’ll tackle this myself. Does anybody have any tips or tricks to do this. I’m thinking the fan, shroud, and turbo piping will have to come off. Or is this a ridiculously hard job that only the greatest Ford techs should even attempt? Lol. I am a mechanic by trade so not afraid to get my hands dirty I’ve just never done one on a 6.7. Thanks in advance.
Also the coolant looks pretty nasty. Should I be switching to maybe Cat ELC like my 6.0? Or stay with the Dex Cool. I’ve never been a fan of the Dex Cool crap really.
Just to finish up this thread for others I replaced my water pump today in about 6 hours. I also replaced the belt, tensioner, coolant and two idler pulleys at the same time. Its not the easiest job out there but doable if you don’t mind getting your hands dirty or a bit bloody in my case. Lol.
Well, glad I found this thread because I'll be replacing the water pump this week. I was idling my truck for an extended period with the A/C on and didn't pay close enough attention (I guess) to the water temps. Guess it must have gotten hot enough to ruin a water pump seal. Already replaced the upper radiator hose and dual thermostat as those were leaking. 7 years and 87,600 miles. Luckily, my 19 year old son is available for some grunt work!

I’m glad it helped you. I’ve been helped many times on here. 👍🏻
for what it costs, why not replace both pumps? got a little rowdy putting on my CP3 due to a belt being too small, the main water pump took the brunt of the damage and developed a leak, so replaced both of them, was pretty cheap to do both, and you're there.

Probably would of been a good idea. My EGR is not functionable anyways so I wasn’t real worried about it. I wish I would of had the fan support bearing and a new alternator and just do it all at the same time.

Yeah, I just thought it was a good idea, maybe it isn't, the Motorcraft parts were new and not remanufactured like Oreilly or Napa typically are so new is always good.
