VIN 97 HC180741, VIN decode says invalid VIN but highway patrol that did verification said everything ok. Have been told that since it has air vent at bottom of windshield makes it a one ton. Bonded title does not include ton rating.
I was confused as I had checked with LMC regard parts for the cowl vent and was told only one ton pickups had this.
LMC usually doesn't have a clue, their catalogs are rife with errors and omissions, their applications are 'cloud coo coo land' they have no Ford parts catalogs to verify anything.
When you call, a minimum wager answers, these people just take orders and that's it.
Yeah, I had a similar experience with LMC recently, the fuel pump for the 54 223 is listed incorrectly. They did look it up and I got a response from two different people telling me that they're going to update the next catalog, so at least I guess they listen. That said, you're not getting an expert on the phone.
I'm not claiming to be the greatest expert on this, but I think if the truck is a 1-ton then you'd have the heavier rear end, if I'm not mistaken it would be a two piece drive shaft, but don't trust me on that. Big springs, too. You'd have the heavier wheels, not 5-bolt. Some one tons did come with single rear wheels instead of dually rear wheels, but they are beefy. I think you'd have a 4-speed floor shift too, again if I'm not way off. The only way they could rate the truck for such a heavy load is through gears, so they'd be pretty low, and the reason for the 4-speed. Imagine a dump truck with a 105-ish HP motor. And it worked fine!

You could get a F350 tonner with a three speed on the column. I just saw a 53 F350 with 3 on the tree on eBay tonight.
Geez, what kind of gear must that thing have, 900:1? I'm kidding of course, but I can't imagine what the driving experience with that is. I recall they did have a heavy duty 3-speed, that must be it.
It goes to show that back in the not too distant past, you could customize pretty much any vehicle in lots of different ways. Of course people used to order a vehicle and wait for it to be built, but you got what you wanted!
