VIN deciphering

I have a 47 Ford dumptruck and was hoping somebody could help answer a question or 2. its a model 798T, GVW of 12,300 lbs and the VIN is 799T 14 01699

any info would be greatly appreciated, ie 1.5 or 2 ton etc.

Thx

I don't have anyway of deciphering the VIN of such a large truck but I can tell you that a 1/2 ton's gvw is 4700lbs. and a 1 ton's is 6600lbs. Now the difference between those two is 1900lbs. now if you take 12300-4700=7600 then 7600/1900=4. So perhaps your truck is a 2.5 ton truck? That's about all I can say as far as any information goes.

Hmm...how'd I miss this post? I'm slipping...lol. Sounds like a 1.5 ton model. The 1.5 ton models had a GVW of 12,500 according to some original brochures for the '46 models. 799T is the model number, remaining numbers are just consecutive numbers the truck was assigned as it rolled down the line.
