Clock spring issue
This 6 pin plug has been the main issue for finding a replacement clock spring. Most are 7 pin.
This plug connects to your steering column
The engineer number of my original clock spring is 2C7T-14A664-AD.
With the 04 being a transition year there werent very may clock springs with this connector made. Bc if u pull up an 05 and later steering wheel u will find the other connector that matches the dorman and still available clock spring. Ford must have changed it and with so little being in production, it wasnt worth to continue production of it.
05 and up steering wheel. This clock spring is available as well as the same connector you will get from the auto part stores.
Solutions:
1. Down grade to only cruise.
2. Find a salvage yard one thats the proper part #.
3. Do the wiring and soldering to match your old clock spring plug to the new clock spring (i dont know the wiring, one will need to investigate further)
4. Change out the steering wheel harness. Though you cant just buy the a harness seperately. You have to buy a whole steering wheel assembly. That leaves you with getting one from the dealer. Or finding one on ebay/salvage yard to remove the harness on or thats in good condition and matches ur color.
In my situation, the only thing not working on the steering wheel is my radio controls. Installed an ebay set of used and didnt fix. So then i went to the clock spring to find the connector problem. With leaving on vaca in a few days. We ohm'd my current clock spring, all was good, so reinstalled it, and still dont have radio controls. So that's another mystery im working on.
Hope this helps the next person as this forum keeps helping me.
