I have 1975 F-100 With mildly modded 360, Rebuilt C6 and 3.55 Rearend gears and it seems to be extremly slow at take off its fine after you get to about 20 then takes right off. What should I check or what could be causing this. I am kinda clueless any help would be great thanks.
Do you mean lack of power below a certain rpm? At what rpm does it pick up? Are you comparing this to when the motor was stock? What cam did you install? Is this a fresh rebuild? Any recent changes to the truck that may have caused this?
The motor is +.030 over, Accel coil, wires and plugs, Heddmen headers, K&N Filter and its lacking power from take off to about 2000rpm. Thats all I know about the engine cam is stock I believe it maybe a small rv cam not sure.
its always been a little slow but it more then normal lately not sure why just need some suggestions. It has plenty of umph in other rpm ranges but from idle its slow as heck.
In all honesty it could be anything causing this from engine to tranny to rearend. If it isn't dramatically worse maybe its nothing. If you are worried about it have it looked over if not then go for the gears they will give you added get up. Good luck hope its not anything to worry about
It just sounds like too small numerically gears. That or someone put a close to stock aftermarket cam in it that has no power until 2000 rpms. I have found several like this while looking here recently. Also is it and automatic or a manual transmission. It may just be in desperate need of a fluid and filter change.
it a C6 automatic, i had it rebuilt a few months ago they put new clutches in it and shift kit, if they changed the converter to different stall speed would that affect it.
It might. You could also try manually shifting it.... Also check to make sure that the vaccum line going to the modulator is hooked to the correct port on the carb.
c6 trannies have heavier components which means it take more power to turn 40 more hp than a c4. it is a heavy duty tranny, i love mine. it is an 82 c6 but i don't like it for street. i think it is part of my problem. my 302 takes off a little slow but not too much i am going to put in a c5 and some different gears in the back one day, and see what it does then.
Ask the mechanic who worked on your tranny if they replaced the torque converter, you may be getting some slippage. If they put in a lower rpm stall converter in, you'd definetaly notice a low end power loss. If you really want to get some boost off the low end, try looking into replacing your torque converter with a higher stall, such as a 24 or 2600 rpm. You can visit www.converter.com and read all about how much low end power you can get from a performance converter. I've done endless research on it and am ordering the Stallion 9.5" converter with a 2600 stall next week. Supposedly, I'm should gain another .5 to .75 in the quarter with it.
