I have a 1970 f100 long bed and a 2006 Mercury GM. I will be putting the front end, 4.6 motor, transmission, and rear end from the GM into the truck. Found a wrecked 1 owner donor with only 100k on it. I have front end, motor, and trans already pulled from the car and I’m currently working on getting the harness out.. so here are my questions for now:
I don’t think I want to use steering wheel from car so what are other steering and shifter options?
What are people using driveshaft wise on these builds? Is it a custom deal?
What is easiest route to take on adding AC to the truck? Or is it even worth fooling with. I’m in the south so it gets toasty.
Steering wheel? I'm sure there are adapters to connect the old column to a later box? Or just buy an aftermarket column(like Ididit) and I bet the double D end will match up.
Shifter? Use a cable from the column to go to the transmission. I've seen a few converted like that.
Driveshaft? Ya, cut to fit. Might only need shortened and a slip yoke installed. You should have two piece right now, correct? Just adjust the front piece to fit and use a slip yoke. Even though it won't need to move it will work fine.
A/C? Use the compressor from the 4.6 and get an underdash unit or heat/a-c unit from Vintage air and just hook it up. Not much to it really.

Sorry, I meant steering wheel and column. But I imagine i'll still need ignition switch, etc. I'm trying to use as much as possible from the donor car without sacrificing the old look of the truck. The ones that have added the CV column just looks off to me. Maybe an old school wheel could be added to the CV column to help but I think an original or aftermarket column dated to the truck would look best.
1. I used an aftermarket column and wheel. Used a double D and an collapsible portion in the event of a front end hit.
2. Lokar floor cable shifter
3.I had a one piece drive shaft made. It ended up at about 70.5 inches. Some will say to long but the shop said at 225 HP it won't be a problem. 600 miles so far with no issues.
4. A/C, I plan to used the GM under the hood and buy a 1/2 kit from Vintage Air. That project is down the road a year or two.
Good luck with the build, I'm pretty happy with mine.

So I have seen a few that have used the crown Vic column. Would this be a simpler approach and just ditch the steering wheel and add a more vintage looking wheel? Or is an aftermarket column the way to go? I’m just trying to keep wiring as simple as possible as well. Plus you’d get to keep some upgraded functionality from the cv

What upgrade would you get?
Locking wheel, what do you do with key in dash?
Wiper, again dash switch.
High beam, floor switch but on the wheel is nice.
Speed control is about all I see it having.
