I had never heard of it before but when i did a vin check on my Bronco it came up as having a 302 HO. I was confused because I had only heard of the HO being in t birds and mustangs not in broncos. So i looked into it and i found the fireing order for the 351 and 302 HO was 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 which was the exact same as the fireing order in my bronco. So now im shure i have the HO. Now what i want to know is if anybody knows the horsepower difference between the 2 engines and if anybody else has this engine in their bronco.
The HO was also found in the Crown Vics, I don't know that much about them though hopefully someone out there does cuz I am kinda curious about it myself as I have an EFI motor from a Mustang GT for my 78 Mustang that is not an HO.
I never heard of a 302 HO FUEL INJECTED engines as an option in the Bronco. Not saying it isn't possible, but funny I never saw or heard of one before. What is your Engine Code digit in the VIN ?
the only cars that i know of that came with the true HO engine was the mustang and the lincoln mark vii, the cougars, t-birds etc said HO on them but wern't true HO's. I'm not sure however for the bronco engine the firing order could be the same but it may not be a roller motor and i think the tb is a little small. i'm still not sure though, I tried to find specs on it and i found that it has 205 hp (HO engines have 225) and something like 275 or 280 torque which is almost the same as the HO engines.
Well i went to my local motor sports shop and they did a free dyno test for me and it turned out i have 230 hp at the wheels at 4200rpm's and 295 ft lbs of torque. All i have done to my bronco is take out the muffler and hollow out the second cat. so if mine is a HO i got 5 extra hp and if it is not i suggest to everyone who has a 302 to do some exhaust work. But maybe the torque was higher because of the gears in the mazda 5 speed i have but i sort of dobut it. Thanks for all the help (again)
by the way i will have some picts of my bronco for you all to take a gander at.
Did you take the muffler off entirely and hollow the second cat, and run a straight pipe? I cut my exhaust off at the back of the second cat and had a muffler shop run a straight pipe in front of the rear wheel. I didn't mess with my cats, thought it might be to loud, but it sounds good and has a powerful tone.
