hey guys i need to know how hard of a job it is to change the oil pan gasket on a 2001 F250 superduty 7.3 diesel 4x4 and what is envolved i sprung a leak looks like the right rear corner is leaking when i change oil i use 1 qt of lucas treatment the past 2 oil changes could this have any thing too do with it leaking any help is appreciated thanks!
thanks would you pull the engine and fix it or just keep a check one the oil and wait for something else one shop said wait but im not sure can you loosen motor mounts and jack the engine up and get enough room to do the job or not ?
I would not recommend the use of any oil treatments. If you are using a quality diesel rated motor oil such as Delo, it has all the additives required to protect your engine. There is nothing more you can add to make the oil better, or the manufacturer would already have done that. All you can do is make it worse. Just my opinion.
I have heard something about it messing up injectors or something like that to use the oil additive so please take a look at how many injectors you have in your truck and then check out the price not a pretty equation--I would just go buy the gasket material from ford (It is great stuff-it will hold a house together!)remove the starter from the drivers side and squeeze it into that spot to try and fill it- may sound wierd but I did mine one day between draining of my oil and refilling it and havent had a leak from that spot since, quick fix for the little oil spot on driveway--um since my truck doesnt fit into my garage
It can be done without pulling the motor but you must pull the turbo, unbolt motor mounts and exhaust pull up as far as you can against the firewall and unbolt the oilpan then comes the tricky part remove everything from the front of the motor without removing the waterpump and then you and your buddy with razor knife in hand and screwdrivers spend the 45 minutes trying to drop the pan off of the motor (which by the way only gives you about 3 and 1/2 inches between the frame and the block) carve off old gasket material, vacuum from pan the shavings and smear on new. Come to think of it, probably better just to wait and pull the motor cuz that was one pain in the .......
Are you absolutely sure it is the pan? Also, have you tried to just tighten up the bolts?
My 97 Powerstroke developed a pan leak and I found that the rear bolts had all backed off. I tightened them and problem went away.
welcome to the world of 7.3 PSD's. My dad has an 03 with the 7.3 and its got 12K on it, with of course the oil pan leak. We work on alot of f450 & 550's and these motors seem to have this problem.
thanks guys its deffinetly the pan i had a shop look also just to make sure the leaks not too bad i might make it last a while and turn it into a toyota or chevy i have had a bunch of problems out of this truck it is out of warr of course i got the lemon in the bunch i guess well thanks for the info.
