Yep, the diesels had the underhood liner as well as the under dash shields/liners. I've thought about pulling some under dash liners and putting them in my truck as I think they clean it up a bit.
My understanding is in general with diesels that the engine compartment can get pretty hot and if you don't have a liner, the top paint will start cooking and come off the hood.

I don't know about that. I've been driving my truck for the past 2 years without a hood liner and the paint on the hood is in good condition. I have no idea how long the PO drove it without the hood liner. My truck does only have 140k miles so...
Id like to see the ABS hoodliner installed the photo on LMC doesn't always show how it really will look. I would love to have the ABS Ford oval embossed one but I don't know about drilling holes lol.
Well, for $30 and 15 minutes messing around in the driveway, this worked out pretty well. And the hood liner was made in America. For the people who mentioned drilling holes, I don't think that would be necessary. The back side was coated in pretty strong adhesive and I only re-used the clips I had because I had them on hand. I don't think they are contributing much to the support as they did on the stock liner.

I've got a bunch of projects on the truck at once and probably won't be able to drive it until next week. I'll let you know once I get a chance to drive it again.

I definitely understand how that goes! Wish I could afford to fix everything I wanted at once, but its a month by month pay as I go type of project. Mine is a daily driver so I fix the important stuff as I need it - last two weeks was a new starter and a 3G alternator upgrade, and a side of updating the driven gear so the speedometer/odometer is accurate again after putting on Cooper 265/75's.
Using my 86 F250 6.9 hood (liner gone but some retainer plugs still present) -
1986 F350 460 - hood has the same predrilled holes. EDIT: I was looking at the ABS hood this evening and I see that it uses holes in the top corners. I don't recall the 6.9 hood having those holes so I will need to check again unless someone with a 6.9 can look at the ABS photo and compare those hole locations with theirs.
1983 F250 400 - no holes in hood
