The hood underliner on my 1986 F-250 came off in several pieces. I have looked for a replacement online, but was unable to find one. There are some aftermarket options like Dynamat where you cut it yourself, although I think it may be a bit too small. Are there any other (better ) options available?
Welcome to FTE.
I did a quick look into this a few weeks ago before painting the under side of my hood.
I only looked at LMC and they had a sheet that gets held with push pin type holders and you need to cut it to size. Truck Parts and Truck Accessories
They may have had something like the Dynamat but was not what I was looking for. Truck Parts and Truck Accessories
Might give a look see here, I have not so they may have something? http://www.dennis-carpenter.com/

You could go totally ghetto like the PO did with mine and paint it with a roofing tar or something similar.
no don't do that, I'm only kidding about using it, not kidding about it being used on mine though...
I cut a hood liner for my Oldsmobile from fire-retardant insulation I got from the hardware store. I think I spent more on the replacement fasteners than I did on the material. I cut a template with paper grocery bags taped together before I cut the insulation.
I need to do the same for my 86 f250. Its hood liner is missing.
I don't think the gas trucks had a liner only the oil burners and think it was more for noise than heat.

Yep, the diesels had the underhood liner as well as the under dash shields/liners. I've thought about pulling some under dash liners and putting them in my truck as I think they clean it up a bit.
Same here I keep eyeing it too but I cant bring myself to drill holes in my oem hood as mine never had any hood insulation on it.
Do they have to be drilled?
I haven't looked closely at the locations of the push-ins on either my 84 or 86 6.9 trucks but I just confirmed the trucks in my shop (85 460 and 86 300) have holes in the perimeter and cross supports that sure look like they'd accept a Christmas tree push-in. So I've been hoping they did line up as I agree about not wanting to drill holes in them. Anyone put one of these in a gas truck or have a diesel and gas to compare? I will be at my parents this weekend where the diesels are so can then if needed.

From my understanding if you had a hood pad at one time the holes are already there for the ABS plastic one. If you never had one then the holes wont be there and require drilling.

The size and the price were right. I have my old liner and will use it to cut the new one and drill holes where necessary. I think it will look pretty stock, although I am concerned I may run into some clearance issues when closing the hood like around the windshield wiper reservoir, but I will deal with that if necessary.
