Why spend money on an engine with less displacement if you are going to "go thru it" anyway? Why not just treat your existing 460 to a freshening and leave it at that? It would be much cheaper that way and you don't have an extra motor laying around taking up space. There is nothing magical about a 429 vs a 460 in this application except perhaps higher compression which may require premium fuel.
I see your point. I already run premium in all my vehicles, despise the ethanol mandates and subsidies. The only reason I am considering this is because out of the box the 70 429 has a hundred +/- more on each end than the 84 460 in stock configuration. To bring the 460 up to the stock specs of the 429 it could possibly add up to more than what a mild mod on the 429 could achieve overall. All would be dependent on the internals of both engines.

If you are talking about HP & Torque, you need to remember that the measuring standard was different in 1970 vs 1984. In 1970 they used gross numbers but, starting in 1972, they switched to net numbers. Everybody's numbers dropped drastically in 1972 and it was not due to stricter emission controls, as many people assume.
Here in Texas, all grades have 10% ethanol, not just regular.
