429 or 460
I posted a few weeks ago about setting up a 429 for my '67 F-100. Recent developments have dictated the rebuild of the motor. It it a 429 "Thunder-Jet" out of a 69 T-bird. My question is this. Should I build it as a 429 or a 460? I have the crank and rods for a 460 already, no cost. I know that bigger displacement means more power potential, but in '69, the 429 made more power than the 460, didn't it? Was that because of the short-stroke/big-bore design? Also, what mods would I have to do to the rest of the engine? Would the block need clearancing anywhere? It needs new pistons anyway, so that isn't an issue. Any advice or opinions would be appreciated. Oh yeah, my goal is horsepower, not stump-pulling torque. This is primarily a cruiser, not a work truck. Thanks!
