Well I am back from vacation and back to this truck issue. After reading all the good advice here and searching all the threads relating to this issue I came to the conclusion it could only be the connector to the IDM. I had good Ohm tests from there all the way through the injectors and back, known good IDM and PCM, and still it was only running on 4 cylinders. I took a probe and checked the IDM connector and it seemed that #23 on the connector was a little larger than the rest. I took the connector apart and squeezed that one connection a little tighter. I then reassembled it and plugged it back in to the IDM and the truck fired right up and is running on all 8 cylinders. It has some other issues but I will open another thread for that one so as not to confuse things. Thanks for all your help with this issue. This is really a great forum. I have learned a LOT about my 7.3 that I did not know.
2001 F250 7.3 PSD 180,000 miles on it. It is only running on 4 cylinders. I have replaced the UVCH with a brand new one from Ford. When I run a buzz test I get P1294 High Side open on the left bank. I have replaced the IDM with a known good one. I have replaced the PCM with a known good one. The buzz test shows that cylinders 2,4,6 and 8 are weak. However I disconnected the UVCH and ran the buzz test again and all 8 buzz but still 2,4,6,and 8 show weak. How can they even buzz at all if the harness is unplugged? I have ran the ohm test also and all the injectors show good with no shorts. I am about out of ideas. I have read many threads on this forum and cannot find any other ideas. Oh, I also took the wiring harness completely off the engine and checked the whole thing and wired in a new UVCH connection from Ford while I was at it. Any ideas?
how do you perform a buzz test, if you don't mind taking the time to reply. TIA
It's one of the tests inside Forscan. There's a sticky thread or 2 at the top of this forum on Forscan. The pc software is free- but you need an obd dongle - they're pretty cheap.
