I always thought the main advantage of the OHC engines was the ability to place the spark plug closer to the center of the combustion chamber. There are advantages to that.
As far as GM engines making more power than Ford, GM seems to always use a higher compression ratio. That accounts for some of it.
I too have wondered why Ford went to OHC engines and GM stuck with pushrod engines and they have always achieved similar numbers.
Well .. . . . the SD 6.2 blew the doors off of the Chevy 6.0 and Dodge 6.4 on the Ike Gauntlet. Not sure that can be entirely attributed to the OHC design though . . .
