I just bought a 2001 F150 4.2 with 60,000 miles. Engine through P0303 code, so I changed plugs. Today I was going to change the ignition wires. Cylinders 1-3 no problem. For the life of me I can not get the ignition wire separator on the back of the engine against the firewall to lift up. It appears that insulation against the firewall keeps me from being able to lift separator off the post. Has anyone else run in to this issue ? If you have, how did you get the separator to lift off. Any help appreciated.
Just unclip and leave the wires across the intake. Should come off easier that way.
Not it the prettiest setup, but effective.
You’ll appreciate that if you ever have to replace the IMRC because the skinny rod makes it that much harder to get that screw out to undo the upper intake. (That part I sawed off, FWIW.)
Thanks Johnny Paycheck. There is no way to open the separator clip behind intake. The only thing visible is the top of the separator clip and one wire. Not enough room for me to get my fat hands back there with enough leverage to pull the clip up. No room above because of what appears to be sagging insulation. Who would have thought changing out ignition wire would be a pain. Thanks.
