Basic question here. When using a remote starter on an 8BA flathead V8, is the connection made between the neg battery terminal and the starter relay or the starter solenoid? Which terminals should I be looking for?
in an OEM setup, all the dash starter switch does is making a connection between the solenoid terminal and the ground. Hence, you can start the truck from anywhere as soon the wire from the small solenoid terminal touches ground.
On a '53, the dash button provides power to the starter relay. (solenoid) So the connections should be at the positive battery or relay post and the small relay post.
Thanks guys. With the positive post being the ground on these trucks, I should jump from the positive post (ground) to the small post on the solenoid, correct?
What year is your truck? If it's a 48-51, that would work. If it's a 52, that would do nothing. If someone changed out the solenoid to the newer type, which is common, you need to supply power to the small post. See how many wires are on your starter switch. 1 = 48-51 style solenoid, 2 = later style.
I have a '53 F100 8BA and I believe it is the original setup as delivered from the factory. It hadn't been registered since '67 when I bought it a year ago.
