SRW to DRW conversion

Just bought a low mileage 2008 F350 (4X4) with a service body. Sold the service body to my neighbor and purchased a dually bed for this year truck. I also purchase a set of 2018 aluminum factory take-off dually rims. I believe the front end should be the same for srw and drw applications with the exception of an adapter (Ford part). I see references for these adapters in the year range before and after my truck but no references for an 08.' I'm hoping that one of our members that has access to parts breakdowns can tell me what part number I need to run the dually rims on the front. Unfortunately the guys at my local dealership appear unable or unwilling to do the digging to figure this out. I know there are aftermarket spacers but I'd rather get the OEM spacers.

You may have an issue with frame width and gas tanks. If the service body was installed on a chassis cab truck, the frame rails are narrow, and the dually box will have to be modified. If the truck was built as a pickup, it has the wide frame rails and the box should bolt up.

No, it's not a cab and chassis frame so I don't anticipate any issues with the bed but this front axle wheel adapter has me a little puzzled. Part # 7 in the diagram below is what I'm thinking I need for my front axle to accept a dually wheel but I'm looking for confirmation and a part number.

Currently it has a 10.5 limited for a srw application but I'm looking for the same rear end in a dually configuration.

Your best bet would be to find the parts in salvage yard and rebuild them before you install on your truck.

DRW trucks used Dana 80 axles in the rear they didn't use the Sterling 10.5. Also take note there was a change from earlier trucks, the trucks 2005+ changed to a 8x200 bolt pattern from the older 8x170.

Thanks for the info on the Dana 80 rear end for the dually application. Do you know if the front ends are the same and if so would that part (#7) referenced above be all that I would need to change over the front end? Also wondering if any of our members have one of those wheel adapters to sell so I can verify that it fits?

In my opinion, the easiest and most cost-effective method to tackling this project is to find a donor truck to pirate the entire rear axle assembly to include the rear brakes complete, as well as the entire front axle assembly right down to brakes complete as well. Doing so will ensure you have identical axle ratios for front and rear. This is a very important detail to be aware of, since the majority of DRW trucks were optioned with 4.10 gears (some with 4.30 gears), while most SRW trucks were optioned with 3.73s. The expense you will incur will be astronomical if you have to swap out your existing front axle gearset to match the ratio of your donor rear axle, should you somehow manage to discover they are different, on top of needing to add DRW specific hub adapters. BTW, the hub and bearing assemblies are different between the two as well. On SRW trucks, the front wheels bolt directly to the hub and the threads for the wheel nuts and studs are fine thread. The hub and bearing assemblies on DRW trucks have studs that are coarse thread, where the hub extender secures to, via the coarse thread nuts. Therefore, you would either need to swap out your hub and bearing assemblies with DRW specific assemblies, or knock out all eight wheel studs and install studs that match the DRW thread and stud length. The hub and bearing assemblies for these trucks aren't cheap either.

So your best bet, is to swap out both front and rear axle assemblies complete, in order to alleviate headaches, expense, and to have the final result appear and function like factory.

Thanks for all of the info. I've found a dually diff that may work but the seller doesn't know the year. I'm hoping to find out if it will work with my 08' based on the info on the diff tag
4.10 V2C34 UA

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
