Aux selection / operation
I have searched but couldn’t find specific answers, I have a 2019 f350 xl with standard radio, no sync or XM, I want to add XM. If I hard wire XM receiver to a power source and use the aux port for input will I have to scroll through all the inputs every time I start the truck? I don’t want a fm modulator, I start , 20-30 times a day in my business and want to just turn key and have XM radio on. I may just replace head unit to one w XM. I had to buy off of the lot and selection was limited with my needs. Thanks guys
If I read this right, you have a small XM radio, like a Roadie (not sure if they still have those). And you want to plug it in through your base AM/FM radio. Correct? It should plug in through the AUX just fine. You shouldn't have to scroll through channels every time since the external unit is what is holding the information.
IIRC if you turn the truck off when AUX is selected it will remain there when you turn the truck on. With an audio cable to your smartphone you can do a complete test yourself.
I have a similar issue. My '17 F-350 xl (it would be an upper case XL if it had power anything) with the same radio doesn't have HD that I'd like to have. When I visit the grand-kids classical music is only on HD. Crutchfield had plenty of radios from $120 to $180 that I'd be happy with. The kicker is that the install kit is $220 (discounted from $270). If they gave the radio away for free it would still cost me $220 for a $120 radio.
If you don't have a vendor for the Sirius XM take a look at Crutchfield. I've always liked dealing with them. Make sure that the Sirius XM adapter will have the correct output for AUX in.
I’ve done this, via a cell phone running the XM app, in both my 13 fusion and my 17 f250. All is it is a Bluetooth streaming connection. And have also done it via an aux input connection in my work transit connect.
I bought the direct wire kit, you will need adapters for the antenna. The difference in data to run the xm app was a no brainier to get the install kit. My radio goes to xm when the truck starts.
