Sail boaters have to deal with this problem every time they step (raise) the mast. They either use a long pole, or an a-frame to get the initial pull angle to be more vertical. If you have a long pole you could stake it on either side. Photo courtesy Southwest Wind Power
not yet... been too hot ntm too busy to work on it again... was working on other things then had to get the truck into the shop because i had a tire trying to blow out the sidewall..
Sorry for the delay... weathers either been crappy or been too busy.. ntm needed to go for some other supplies as well to reweld the pole back together (needed more wire and sticks along with a few other things)...
but after getting the pole re-welded back together i put dad back to work... its about 10' shorter than originally planned and little extra reinforcement added internally..
Me and mom did the deadlift and had dad in his truck to tug it up (since hes can barely walk most days) once we couldnt get it up any higher...
now the flags are flying high and proud... even from the house that pole still looks tall... ill need to get a pic from the street... from out there it looks taller than the house lol... which it probably is...
Thanks Bob... despite it being 10' shorted its still pretty heavy... originally we all tried to dead lift it up but wasnt going so well.. figured since it was shorter wed be able to.. but nope... wed get it about 1/3 the way up and couldnt get someone to move forward fast enough (dad doesnt move so well anymore)... so then i went and got dads truck and the tow rope and one of my tie down chains... put him in the truck and me and mom dead lifted it up to 2/3-almost 3/4 the way up.. then had to use the truck to pull it the rest of the way up... the annoying part was when dad slacked the line before we could get the last 2 bolts into the base... had to yell at him to back the truck up to put tension back on the line so it wouldnt come back down..
Looks very nice with the old girl up top flapping in the breeze.
You have to get a night photo with the lights on. If your really lucky you can get a light breeze and a clear sky.
we had a rain storm come by today after it went up but now that its dark its dead still... i think we are still gonna need to put some house powered lights out there at the base because the solar spotlights that dad wanted to use are already out... the one at the top of the pole are still lit.. with no wind all you see is a UFO up here in the dark lol...
