I've had this issue not long after I did my water pump where my belt that goes from the fan to the AC to the power steering tries to walk off of the front of the pullies. On my way to work it accomplished this and took out my alternator/fan belt and turned them into a rats neat around my fan. This ruined the plug to my AC as well. When you run run the engine the belt starts feeling forward on the fan get a little worse at the tensioner hangs off the AC which has tilt at the bearing then goes back on track at the steering and fine at the crank.
I'm thinking of replacing the hole compressor the tensioner and converting it to R134A. My question is would the slop in the bearing in the compressor push the belt off like that or is there some other issue?
Also should mention you can watch the bolt in the center wobble while the AC is on and the AC has varying temperatures based on RPM
The steering pump has endplay but it had that when I first replaced it so I imagine that's not unusual. And note that the alternator which shares the crank and waterpump/fan tracks perfectly as long as it isn't getting ripped off by the belt behind it.
Any pulley that is wobbling because of a worn bearing could cause issues like you describe. It sure sounds like your compressor is causing the belt to come off especially if you can wobble it by hand. If you are converting to R34 research the process to make sure it is done correctly. Sandy
Yeah for sure it wobbles enough you can visualy see it. I decided to gamble and get a new clutch coil and pulley set. Hopefully that'll do the trick. I'll update this thread on the results hopefully tomorrow if not when I get a new tensioner too. I just hope there's shims in the kit
