Hey guys. I was wondering if there are new or rebuilt 6 volt generators available that will work in a 292? My 53 has a 292 in it and is going to be all 6 volt positive ground. I already have a new generator voltage regulator and wiring for a generator so I wanted to see if there was a generator option instead is switching to a alternator. Thanks
Yikes! That's not a generator, that's a small, el-cheapo alternator stuffed in a case, designed to look like a generator. $500 (+ shipping, and whatever your governor's cut). I doubt they are positive ground? I didn't check.
Were it me, I'd find a good used 6 volt generator off that auction site or a junkyard. They are cheap, because the demand for 6 volt units is about nonexistent. Shipping might be kind of high. Then rebuild it yourself, it's pretty simple. Bearings and brushes, basically. Maybe someone here at FTE has one they'd let you have at a decent cost. Not too many die-hard 6 volt enthusiasts out there left. Be sure to use nothing less than 00 ("double ought") battery and ground cables for everything.

Yikes! That's not the one I thought. This is the one I meant.
Thanks everyone. I found one out of a 1955 292 Mercury with all the bracketry which I needed as well for $50. It seems like that should get me going. Thanks again!
