I have noticed this problem too (screen goes to max brightness when shifting into reverse) and I am dumbfounded that the software update passed through QA with this bug.
I'm amazed at the number of things that just seem to be over Ford's head. It's indicative of limitations built in to Ford's culture.
While I tend to agree with you, it's extremely challenging to go from a "heavy metal" (iron, steel, etc.) manufacturing company to a manufacturing company with awesome software. Software development groups don't tend to "bolt on" well to manufacturing groups.
That said, Ford needs to accelerate its modernization or it will increasingly lose more "infotainment share" to other companies like Google & Apple. Consumers expect and to a certain extent, demand, the better UI (user interface) and UX (user experience) that FAAMA (Facebook, Apple, Alphabet, Microsoft, Amazon) have normalized.
My truck is going into the dealer next week for front end seals leaking and while its there i have asked if they can check to see if theres anything they can do about the screen brightness in reverse. I will keep everyone posted...….hopefully they can help out.
I’m new here, I just bought a ‘19 F-250 and this damn bright light is how I found this forum. This is something very upsetting to me...as much as these things cost and something that simple, and a freaking towel is the best solution. I look forward to a fix
Well it seems every time I bring it in for other things plus the brightness, it kind of never gets taken care of or even looked at. I love my dealership and continue to go to them for warranty work and major repairs (if there are any) but it seems like they look the other way anytime i mention the brightness. I wonder if there is nothing in their power to change the setting for this. Maybe its locked from the factory? I only had this issue when they changed my body control module to the latest and greatest. Has anyone tried forscan lately to see if there is any setting for this?
Anything is possible but it's almost certainly a software issue - almost everyone here has only recently started experiencing this problem after a software update (over the air or otherwise).
You can throw my truck in the hat too. Except my dealership said that it’s “performing as designed”... Geee, thanks. Now un-design it. By coincidence, I also use a towel! I’m using a high quality, dark grey hand towel I borrowed from my parent’s house last year.
