Hey guys I recently had my APIM updated and it still needs to be replaced but now that it has the updated software when you put the truck into reverse the screen goes into a bright mode to see better but when it's dark out and your looking back and forth in your mirrors the bright screen makes it difficult to focus on your mirrors. I have my dash lights at the lowest setting. Is there an option in Forscan to adjust this or maybe the dealer could turn that feature off? I like if I need to have it brighter I can manually do it with the dash light button. This might not effect everyone but I can not stand such a bright screen especially when trying to backup.
I would love an answer on this too. After update to the latest SYNC software, the screen goes to full brightness in reverse. Prior to the updated software the brightness level in reverse would match the rest of the dash light level.
We have '19 expedition that acts the same way, when you go to reverse the SYNC screen goes to full brightness, it is something they changed in the SYNC update, and its terrible, its almost impossible to back a trailer up with the glare coming off the screen when its dark outside.
I also wish i had an answer for this, because it sucks. Almost as bad as ford's software updates. They claim to fix issues, but why can't they fix the items that really matter, such as this.
I've noticed that at night, my brightness is maxed out. I prefer to have it at the lowest setting also. However, it doesn't hold. The bars show the lowest setting, but I have to hit the brightness button up one and then back down and this seems to trigger it back to the dimmest setting. Hopefully this helps
I have found that. I leave mine on the dimmest setting (I wish it would go another click or 2 dimmer, but thats a different discussion entirley) typically, but every time I start up the SYNC screen is on the brightest setting, and have found that work-around. But as soon as I shift into reverse the screen goes back to full bright and there is no way to dim it back down to match the rest of the dash light setting.

My truck does the same thing when start it. The touch screen is very bright and my cluster is where i left it, 2 clicks up and 2 down and its back to normal. But jeez that reverse screen is horrible. I am reaching out to my dealer again to see if they can fix it. I will keep everyone posted.
The camera on my 2019 is nowhere as good as it was on my 2010. I always back into my garage. With this truck, you can't see anything until half the bed is in the garage. With my 2010 I could clearly see everything in the screen as I approached and entered the garage. One would think they could find a fix for this...

Count me as another unhappy owner, I agree that this design is bad.

Arguably off-topic.....but I think you must have either a bad camera, or problems with the reverse camera lights. Mine is bright and totally readable in full darkness.

I can say before the update the camera worked much better and was a lot more clear. When i was having APIM issues (Bluetooth connectivity) they flash loaded the newest software and I noticed the screen issue and also a drop in the performance. Even after the APIM was finally changed it still remains the same. I have been in contact with the service rep and my parts guy at ford and both of them are baffled they have not heard any issues. I explained the bright screen and also the small issue of the screen and gauge cluster not matching once started. I need drop the truck one day for them to hook up and take a look. Since i am deleted its not as easy to just show up and throw a computer on it since i have to detune the truck for them to access the computers.
I have this same issue on my 2017 F250 AND my 2017 Ford Fusion. To be clear the 'issue' is the full bright sync screen in reverse AND that the sync screen defaults to full bright when I start either vehicle and have to use the dimmer adjustment as the work-around.
So, seems like a software issue to me and hopefully someone can figure it out.

You are correct. the issue are exactly what you described. backing a trailer in sucks now when its dark.
Just checking back to see if anyone has found a fix for the bright screen in reverse? I had to stop a few times backing into my driveway to let my eyes focus again to my mirrors. Its horrible and does not get any easier to back up. I wish you could choose a setting to say yes for full bright or no for user adjustment.
Maybe Ford can come out with a nicer beach towel with Ford logo like the one I'm using now to throw over the screen. Only way to be able to back a boat up to the launch when it's dark.
