Any Problem With Replacing HPOP Before Injectors

It's a budget thing, you see. Too many toys.

At 254k, my HPOP is getting weak. Mid 400's idle, pulse width pretty fat. Under load, 25% call results in ~1800psi.

The question is, are there any issues with replacing the HPOP and keeping the old injectors in place until next summer? My plan would be to do all the glow plugs (2 are bad) and a hot retorque, at the same time swapping out the HPOP.

If you are not having trouble with the injectors, you shouldn't have any problems replacing only the HPOP

That is the way I did it.. With 4 years between...

So.. Is it "Press-kit" or "Press-kot" (I spend some time in the Wikieup area)

My Dad lives there and says "Press-kit", but he's a CA kid not a native.

Dad joke alert!

Man flying to vacation on Hawaii turns to the man sitting next to him. "Is it pronounced Hawaii, or Havaii?
Other man; "Havaii"
1st man; "Thanks!"
Other man; "You're velcome!"

And yeah, I see no issue with replacing a dying HPOP now before injectors. Empty the HPOP reservoir with a soap dispenser pump so the oil doesn't floosh out into the valley.

No problem at all....in fact, that would be the way I would do it because good injectors don't help a failing hpop, but a new hpop can help injectors a little bit. Go for it.

Just pull the oil filter off, the oil will drain there anyways since you may as well do an oil change since you're opening the system.
You'll have to crank the engine a lot to get it to start once you button everything back up too if you didn't already know.
I don't see a tuner mentioned in your signature. Are you stock tuned? If you're not it might not be the hpop at all.

Cool, I wasn't sure if getting back up to OEM pressure might cause an issue with injector o-rings or something else.

Thanks for all the replies. I've done a re-seal and lines on the existing HPOP, so I've played that game before - all great tips so far. I'll probably re-do the oil cooler o-rings at the same time as that was leaking this past winter, so all the oil will be out for that anyways. And the power steering pressure lines. Oh, and probably the AC fan and resistor.

@dmd If one says "Press-COTT" here, it's a certainty they're from elsewhere. "Preskitt" is the local norm. I gotta get out toward Wikieup and check out some of the desert roads.

@aawlberninf350 Seems like almost everyone here is from CA, haha. Dish soap pump is a great idea! I've been using a mity-vac, but I have to empty the reservoir 4 times, it's a pain. And a great joke, BTW! I'm in rep jail, I'll pay homage as soon as I'm free.

@JOHN2001 No tuner yet. Waiting to get everything else up to speed - valve body, 6.0 cooler, and injectors at least - before I decide whether or not to amp things up. Last time, after I did the re-seal and changed the lines, I was surprised at how quickly it fired and idled nearly normally - but I had cranked it for 20 seconds 3 or 4x with the 42-pin disconnected before trying to light it.

I have a mighty vac as well and have been using it for years. I finally got tired of emptying the very small fluid reservoir and created my own reservoir.

I had some 90 degree bend vacuum attachments in the garage and "acquired" a wide mouth Ball mason jar from the kitchen. The lid is 2 part, which makes it easy to work with. I drilled 2 small holes on either side of the flat portion of the lid and the epoxied the 90 degree fittings into the holes. Then I put some silicone around the epoxy to ensure an airtight fit.

Now, I have a quart or so sized container for the fluid to drop into which allows for much more fluid extraction and much less fluid dumping.

Cost me nothing and my wife didn't even notice the jar being gone

Or just use a shop vac with a rubber plug in the end, drill out the plug and put a small hose in.. Not too much of a mess of you keep the hose of the vac
vertical so the oil doesnt go the distance. But I do all sorts of things with the shop vac.. and it had a very smokey end to its life the other day.. pretty spectacular
except it was inside an enclosed are when it decided to burn up...

I know a lot of the hidden ones.. My father has an airplane and he spots them from the air and we try them.. There is one that we have hit from both ends and never made
it clear through.. It is like a triple diamond ride.. Last attempt it was kinda snowy and we didnt want to take one steep hill... May keep trying until I make it. Probably
have only ridden 1/3 of it and the exploring time to find the trail the first time through the areas takes some time. All of these are down by Signal and out on 17-Mile Rd.

@Sous Nice mod to the Ball jar - they're handy little devils, my girlfriend can't seem to keep them on the shelf either!

@dmd I have an old Sears shop vac that I use for icky stuff. Sucking up a quart of oil sounds a bit too much even for me, though.

Going to head west on one of the KTMs or the XR this fall and poke around. I'll be looking at google maps in the areas you mentioned!

*copies, pastes, googles*

Loves me some dirt roads. Around Tahoe it's mostly rocks, but I like dirt. Best I've done out thata way was Cottonwood road. Got any other suggestions?
