I have an early 1999 F350 Crew Cab Dually, mostly stock. Two injectors are worn out on the drivers side. What are the pros and cons of:
1 - Replace only the 2 injectors
2 - Replace all injectors only on drivers side
3 - Replace all 8 injectors
Also, should I go with new Alliants or remanufactured's from Beans (or another source)?
My truck is sitting in my mechanics garage until I can find injectors. He wants $800 for 2 new injectors. Obviously I told him to wait until I find cheaper injectors.
Thank you for your advice!
I would love to have an injector problem. That's about the only way my wife won't flip out about spending $2000+ "unecessarily" on my truck. I've been eyeballing a set myself.
I would personally go with all new single shot stage ones and do the work myself for not much more money.
You do, They are not the ones you want (A common PMS Side Effect)
Paradise if that is installed for both it is not that bad a price, But if you are planning futere mods for hign HP them llok around at some of the aftermarkets. Bean's, Dieselsite, ITP, ect or for a good price on OEM's try powerstrokeshop.
The $800 is just for the injectors!
I would do the install myself, but I just had a full knee replacement. So, my mechanic is holding off until I have some injectors shipped to him. I have contacted Larry at Discount Power Parts. He is trying to put together a package deal with 8 Beans Stage 1 injectors and a Jody DP (6 program) tuner for around $1500. Does that sound like a good price?
Also, who is ITP? Link?
Should the glow plugs be changed?
That doesnt look to be too bad a price for that package. Unless you have a bad GP now changing them would just be preventitive maintenance but since you have the VC off it is Easy PM
1500 is a good price for the injectors and a chip, depending on how many tunes the chip has on it. If it's just one, you can get the chip and injectors seperate for cheaper. 6 or more tunes and it's a great deal. Do not get fooled into paying $400 a piece for a new injector. Cookie88 knows a link where i think you can get them for less than $150 a piece.
You might as well change out the glow plugs now, you have the valve covers off, and they are so easy to get to already.
You can get a Cylinder Contrubution Test.(CCT) I know the Snap-On Modis tool we have at school does it, because i tried it on mine. It cuts out one cylinder at a time, and measures the drop in RPM. If one cylinder is cut out and there is no change in RPM, then its likely that the injector is bad, if you have compression in that cylinder. If you know somone with an advanced scanner tool, get them to run a CCT test. If one or more cylinders are bad, pull the valve covers and get a compression test done on that cylinder. Make sure the valvetrain is good before you go swapping out injectors.
I have 200,000 miles on my early 99 and have replaced two injectors, with only one of those being bad. The other was replaced due to believing a Cyl Contribution Test. I would replace the two with new alliants. I have bought early 99 AB injectors, new in the alliant power boxes, for 200 plus core charge. I think it was Gomers Diesel.
I just ordered from Bean's: 8 new Alliant Stage 1 single shot 60HP injectors, a DP 6 program chip set and an overboost annilhilator. It was $2090 for all. (It would have cost more if I purchased the injectors from Bean's and the chip from Jody.) I first spoke to Jody and he recommended the Bean's injectors. Only question is - After ordering the package, Beans's didn't take as much info as Jody asked. I tried calling Jody back and didn't get an answer. Anyone have experience orderin Jody's products from Bean's?
I also ordered a Transfo Hugger kit from Transmission Parts USA.com for $96.35.
I'll also be changing the glow plugs and relay with Motorcraft parts.
I'll be installing Dale's Tymar intake and his HPX soon.
Thanks,
Pat

I have a 1999 (7/98 production date) F350 crew cab dually with 4:10 gears. Early next year I want to replace my tires (215/75/16's) with Nitto Terra Grabbers, either 265's or 285's.
I just spoke to Jody and he is going to do some custom work on my chip. He said I'll be a Guinea Pig for him.
We'll see! I should get his product later this week.
