Afternoon,

Have had a 2018 F250 with the 6.7 for a while and picked up a 2019 F150 w/ the 5.0 but have experienced some weird pieces to it. Anyone else have a really hard/loud clunk in the rear end if you go from Reverse to Drive too quickly? if so was there a solution to it? The most obvious and easy answer is to come to a complete stop before changing gear.

To bank off the last piece, sometimes when downshifting, particularly from say 8th to 6th, where it quickly is in 7th gear, there is a similar hard shifting feeling. Its not in the transmission as you can physically feel it coming from the rear end. I've seen some people mention this in the past to a small degree. Dealer has no clue and I'm worried that if they try to fix it, it'll never be right. It almost feels like the ring and pinion have a tiny gap and it allows for a little play? Just shooting this out there to see if I've got a one off or if others have similar problems and or a solution

Thanks

There was a pretty long thread about the clunk when shifting from D to R and vice versa. The conclusion was that the tranny doesn’t like it and I believe it will be a case of the truck teaching you what it likes. The biggest complaint was from people saying they used toot to have to come to a complete stop in their previous vehicles.

I will I’ll say that mine doesn’t seem to mind it so much now that I have over 40K miles. When new, mine did it too. I think it has to do with this new transmission having more precise components inside...but that’s just a guess.

your other clunk might go away over time too. I wouldn’t worry about it.

These transmissions take a while to "learn" your driving style. Some people say they smooth out after that process. Others do a Reflash of the software.
