Red face not good

starting about 2 days ago, (got worse today) when i take off from a dead stop in my 93EB 351w E40d, it starts off fine , but when it goes to shift into 2nd gear it feels like the rear axle like crashes into gear. the tranny does not slip at all never has, does not leak fluid isn't burnt and never has been. it takes off fine, don't hesitate or anything but when it goes into 2nd it feels like it sort of slams into it a little. i'm about to replace my vehicle speed sensor anyway because of a slight hesitation at 40mph, (it can't decide whether to be in OD or not) are these problems related? I don't want to throw out my rear end or anything, its not slamming that hard, but i know my truck and its never done this before, so i'm worried about her!

So it feels like the rear end is "sloppy"? Could be a number of things including U-joints, slip joint, pinion bearings, or even backlash between the ring and pinion gears.

But Id' be willing to bet that the problems with the 40mph hesitation and this are related somehow. Sounds more like a tranny issue, honestly.
