I have a 2002 f250 diesel xlt 4x4 4door with 140000 miles on it. I’m the original owner and I am having problems with the door locks cycling while I’m driving. After reading numerous posts on the issue I think it may be the vsm. I removed it from behind the dash and is currently hanging near the floor. It keeps making clicking sounds when I open the door and the door locks won’t work using the key remote or the switch on the drivers door. Plus the power mirrors won’t work. It first had started out with just the locks cycling while driving to now all it does it make the clicking sound. I have read several threads that if you don’t get the exact serial number for a new or used one you would have to get it programmed at a dealer. I did happen to find one on eBay for $347 and the dealer wants $147 to program it for a total of about $500. I tried replacing the relay but it didn’t help. I don’t really have that kind of money to spend so is there a company out there that can rebuild the one I have? I haven’t been driving the truck as it really gets annoying. It locked me out once while it was running so I had to put a hid-a-key under the truck. Any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My VSM was starting to act up. Don't quote me on it but I think that FORScan (laptop version) can read the VSM info and program another one so you wouldn't have to go to the dealership.
I never got past the theory phase as my truck got totaled before I had a chance to experiment.
I recommend posting in the 99-03 7.3L forum as there are a few guys that may know the answer and/or possibly another alternative less than $500.
